      Ashley The Know

This week on Club Club we're watching Stardust! It's a 2007 movie based on the book by Neil Gaiman and we can't wait to talk about it. If you want to watch before this weekend, it's currently streaming on Netflix (in the US, at least... not sure about other regions. Sorry!), but it's also available to rent on YouTube/Google Play, Amazon, and iTunes.

We want to include your thoughts in the show!

You can suggest a "Movie Club" style question about the themes of the movie we should discuss.

You can also leave us a comment about something in the movie that surprised you, a moment you particularly enjoyed, etc. and we'll shout out some of your thoughts in the episode. OR you can tweet us your thoughts using the hashtag #ClubClub.

Book Club - The Lies of Locke Lamora

Tabletop Club - Mansions of Madness

      Game Club - Little Nightmares

It's finally time! We're getting ready to sit down and record our first episode of Club Club! We're starting off with Game Club (BACK FROM THE DEAD!) and we're playing Doki Doki Literature Club. We've scarred ourselves plenty with our playthroughs, but we also want to know how it scarred you. Let us know a favorite moment or element from the game and we'll shout them out as part of the episode!

Alternately, you can tweet with the hashtag #ClubClub and we'll be highlighting your tweets about the game as well.

And don't forget our other upcoming Clubs!

      Movie Club: Stardust

Book Club: The Lies of Locke Lamora

      Tabletop Club: Mansions of Madness

Look for the episode to go up on the site exclusively for FIRST members this weekend! Once we get the whole show settled and going along smoothly, we'd also like to add a streaming component, but I'm still learning the whole live/to-tape production pipeline so trying not to bite off more than I can handle.

    • Let's do E3 2018!

      Ashley The Know

After months of planning I honestly can't believe it, but E3 starts THIS WEEKEND!

Like the last few years, we'll be on the ground broadcasting live during the press conferences and straight from the Los Angeles Convention Center once the show floor opens on Tuesday, as YouTube's official show floor coverage.

We've done this for a few years now, and it never ceases to impress me just how lucky we are to have this opportunity, and I hope we create a great show for you!

In total we will stream more than 30 hours across 6 days, featuring more than 40 games during our show floor coverage. You want to know about a game? Chances are pretty good we'll have it on. We'll be able to share more guests in a few days once they've announced their games, and we'll be one of the first to talk to the developers following the reveals! I can't wait.

      I hope you'll join us!

Since this is a production we do in partnership with YouTube, you can catch catch us live exclusively here:

If you're not able to watch every second of the live show (We get it! That's a lot of live show to watch!) The Know will post the individual demos, interviews, and publisher presentations daily here on so you can browse it all at your leisure.

For now, take a look at our schedule and a few of the highlights you can expect to see!

    • Celebrate International Women's Day with Us!

      Ashley The Know

International Women's Day is coming up this Thursday, March 8! And that's a great excuse for the ladies of Rooster Teeth to get together, share some beverages and celebrate some mammaries.. err, memories. And we want you to join us!

We're throwing a livestream party to highlight a bunch of the awesome women in the company and hear how everyone got started (in case you're looking for a little inspiration of your own), and answering your burning questions. Plus, we'll show off video games featuring leading ladies because they deserve love too.

We're also partnering with YouTube to support a good cause while we celebrate! We're using YouTube's SuperChat for Good feature to raise donations for Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization that aims to inspire, educate, and equip young women to enter the tech industry.

100% of SuperChat revenue will go directly to the foundation for the entire stream, and I really hope everyone submits $80.08 because... boob. WHAT IF WE RAISE $80,081.35? That would be amazing. Very specific and unlikely, but it would be a beautiful thing.

      Here are the stream details!

      When: Thursday, March 8 4PM - 7PM CST/10PM - 1AM GMT
      Where: YouTube and

And here's more information about Girls Who Code!

Girls Who Code was founded five years ago with the belief that computing skills are a critical path to security and prosperity in today’s job market. From Clubs in rural Oklahoma, to homeless shelters in Massachusetts, to the country’s most prestigious private schools—girls everywhere are united by their passion to use technology to solve problems in their day-to-day lives and make a positive impact on the world.

    • The Grind is Real

      Ashley The Know

It's been years since I played Final Fantasy X. I bought the HD Remaster when it hit PC but decided to save it for another day and never got around to it. But I recently got a Vita to binge Persona 4 Golden and picked up FFX/FFX-2 while I was doing a pre-flight shopping binge wherein I buy several books and games to stave off the utter terror that I MIGHT. GET.BORED.

So I started playing again. And I decided, since I played the shit out of it before PSN Trophies were around to give me the credit I so richly deserve, that I would platinum it. I promised myself.

I hate myself, and I hate my promises.

I thought I knew what FFX completion looked like. In my PS2-era mind it was getting all the celestial weapons and beating the Omega dungeon. Then I see these fuckers on the trophy list.

I didn't even realize what that meant. Surely it couldn't mean activating every node on the entire sphere grid (the game's leveling/skill tree system), could it? That's like a human rights violation. For reference, this is the sphere grid.

In the normal course of the game, each of the 7 playable characters starts at a different point on this grid and follows a track. When you fight monsters you earn points (AP) that let you advance around the grid and you spend different types of spheres to activate nodes that raise your HP, MP, Strength, etc. or unlock abilities like Heal or Fire or Quick Hit.

Mostly, the tracks and some special abilities are locked off from each other, unless you get special spheres to unlock them, but theoretically this means you can teach your tanks to heal and get your mages some defense.

      Pretty cool, right?

In the FUCKING SADISTIC version of the game, just taking ALL 7 characters around the ENTIRE GRID isn't even enough. You have to consign yourself to spending hours hitting special monsters in a monster arena to collect special spheres to turn empty nodes into attribute nodes, then activating them so there are no empty nodes left.

You need to earn a LOT of AP to be able to move around to activate everything. There's one particular trick that's supposed to make this easier. You customize some weapons to add certain abilities, then repeatedly fight a specific monster to get a TON of AP.

But before that you have to, (SURPRISE!) beat up other monsters for hours on end, torturing them into dropping items you need so you can customize OTHER weapons and sell them to make money so you can bribe totally different monsters for the materials you actually need to make the weapons to hit the AP guy so you can move around the sphere grid.

I hate everything about it, but I'm still putting myself through it.

Yesterday I got my first character through this gauntlet (bless you, Wakka). He had the hard work of forging the path through, transforming every empty node. Now all the other characters follow behind. Hopefully that means only a few hours to go? Hopefully?

I checked my play time pre-grind and where I'm at now. 80 hours. 80. HOURS. That's half my total play time. As much time as I've spent playing the game, getting all the celestial weapons, and beating the secret dungeon that I would have defined as "complete" before.

Almost done, though! Right? I hope? Then I can move on to getting the Platinum for Final Fantasy X-2 because I NEED the perfect ending.

What am I doing with my life?

    • Welcome to the Holiday Gift Guide

      Ashley The Know

Eric Vespe recently joined us to be our resident movie nerd, but he has many skills. Every year, he publishes one of the most comprehensive holiday gift guides on the internet, and this year he's doing it with us! Whether you're looking for movies or collectibles or games or housewares or art or... well, pretty much anything, if it's geeky and awesome he's probably found it and listed it in this guide.

We'll be putting up additional sections of the gift guide over the next several days, but we're starting off with two of his favorites: blu-rays/dvds/4k video and art.

Check it out, let us know if you get anything for someone you love (or, let's be honest, yourself), and if you've got additional gift ideas throw them at us!

NOTE: there are some links in this guide that include affiliate links for sites like Amazon. What this means is that if you click the link and find something you like and buy it, Amazon pays us a small referral fee. We're hoping to use this to fund cool new stuff for The Know, but it's not a consideration for what goes in the guide itself, and we include a ton of stuff from all across the internet simply because it's super cool. We just want to be totally transparent about the process so you know what's going on when you click those links.

    • Welcome Eric Vespe to The Know

      Ashley The Know

Since launching The Know I've had the privilege of working with a number of talented writing voices. Coming in to the office every day to digest and debate through the events of the video game world is like coming home.

Today, I'm lucky enough to be able to add another name to that list (and one I've had my eye on for a long time): Eric Vespe, known to many in the entertainment world as Quint. Eric, formerly of Ain't It Cool? News, has been one of the foremost writers in the entertainment space for 20 years, and has agreed to join on with The Know to lead the charge deeper into movie and entertainment coverage for us.

This is really huge for us and we're lucky to have him. I like movies. Most of us do, really. But when I see how passionate Eric is for the medium, and just how much he knows about every element of every genre, I realize just how much I have to learn. His enthusiasm is infectious and makes learning more about movies FUN, which is exactly what we need.

Over the next few weeks you'll start to see Eric's work appear on the website and in videos. We're also going to be working together to develop new content that takes advantage of Eric's unique strengths, and I can't wait for you all to see it.

Until then, please welcome Eric to the family!

We're holding an official meet up for The Know and our Know Buddies at RTX! Join us Friday from 6PM to 8PM at Bar 96 on Rainey Street (walking distance from the convention center!) for casual drink and chats. It's right between the last panels for the day and the VIP party so no excuses for not coming to say hello!

If you can't make it we've got panels and signings throughout the event where we'll be giving away fun stuff, and we'll do our best to meet as many people as possible.

Watched the Try Hard podcast (that you were on):  I was excited for WonderWoman too... but the only parts of the WW trailer I enjoyed were the fight scenes. And in BvS the fight scenes of Batman fighting all those goons was good. The plot still fell through.

Do you think the trailer shows enough story aspect to be enjoyed outside the fight scenes?

This might be an issue I'm having, rather than the site, but it's been a while since I've seen a new The Know video here. The last one I can see is 'More games WORSE on Playstation 4 Pro', but I can see on the youtube channel there have been at least three videos posted after that. I don't even know if the scheduling or upload is something you deal with, but I figured I'd hit you up in case it was something that needed to be looked into.

      Thanks :)

Yeah the first time I noticed this was when Mica was rocking Black Cat on Always Open and they showed a clip of a Know video shot that day. It's not on the site, but it is on YouTube however. There have been a couple updates here and there that haven't shown up on The Know's Recent Updates. I brought it up on 'Is this Xbox Scorpio VR?', but have just been clicking over to YouTube to check on any I may have missed. Hope it gets resolved somehow.

Thanks for keeping us in the know, Ash!

Just a heads up, you missed out on the one of the other big names attached to the CSGO scandal. Josh Beaver also known as is listed as the Secretary. A quick Reddit search shows he has deleted VODS where he was answering questions from angry followers until he went into Sub Only Mode and then offline shortly after. Josh was KNOWN for being on CSGOLotto all the time and making RIDICULOUS bets and winning a lot of the times.

The last name on the list is another COD YouTuber, while not as famous, he was making Gambling videos as well and constantly promoting the site. same as the others and deserves the same punishments.

Just listened to the Patch #125. Y'all talked about the Sci Fi clones/ teleporting. I'll check out Altered Carbon as soon as finish The Battle, Alter World Book 5.

One of my favorite properties to adjust this was Borderlands 2. The New U station says, "Greetings, clone of the recently deceased!" or "Hyperion suggests that you do not think about the fact that this is only a digital reconstruction of your original body, which died the first time you respawned. Do NOT think about this!" after a respawn. It was a heavy moment in such a tongue in cheek game the first time I heard those.

Keep up the good work. Cheers!

The New Destiny DLC seems oddly similar to extortion. "Hey we made more content for this game you seem to like a lot, if you buy it you get tons of neat stuff but if you don't we will take away some of what you already have". Compare to; "Hey this is a nice shop, sure would be bad if somebody came in and trashed the place, we do live in a bad neighborhood after all. You know for a price we could make sure that doesn't happen, or we could make sure that it does happen, your choice."

I just caught up on The Patch finally, and heard you guys were playing Crypt of the Necrodancer this week. I love this game, so I'm super excited to see you guys are playing it. I did want to give a word of advice, though, and I apologize if this has already been forwarded to you guys: definitely try it on the dance pad, but start out and learn the basics using a keyboard or controller. There's definitely a learning curve to the game just to get into the groove of it, and trying to climb that while using the dance pad can ruin the experience for you. Get your legs under you first (no pun intended), and once you get a handle on the mechanics of it move on to your dancing shoes smiley1.gif

Regardless, I hope you guys enjoy it at least half as much as I do!

Hi and welcome to the site! Unfortunately Rooster Teeth does not have a physical store front (you can find all their merchandise here on their online store. They do have booths/store products at conventions they attend however. As for tours, given the hectic nature of their production schedules, they do not offer tours of their studios.

All that being said, their convention, RTX, will be in early August this year where all the Cast and Crew will be there, along with a physical store of their products. Here is some information about the convention.

Hey, would it be possible for The Know to tone it down with the click-bait article titles? I might be alone in this but I actively dodge anything from buzzfeed and similar links from my friend and on other websites all the time because I feel that bad journalism needs to try to trick you into reading articles. I know that there are tons of books out there and studies showing that this type of advertising works, but I don't think that The Know needs to resort to every video being a question aimed at making a viewer think they are under attack. "Google vs Your Phone?!" ...really? If that is what The Know wants to be then that is okay. Not the end of the world. Just... I was hoping for journalism from people I trust without all the bullshit. Unfortunately the Know might not be able to survive without playing with the same rules as the top-10 articles which seem to spam facebook these days, I just hoped it would.

I have a book recommendation for you, since you seem to love books to an obsessive degree; like any self-respective reader should be. Try checking out the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Its a fantasy series that takes place in another universe, following the theme of "What happens if the hero of a story turned into a tyrant after saving the world?" The main character is a female badass that I think you might enjoy. A game is set to be released for it as well, coming out in the fall of next year.

I have a suggestion for The Patch Game Club Book Club! I''m hoping you'll see it here since I don't have a Google + account to comment on YouTube.

Keeping with the Japanese game theme, what if you guys played Yandere Simulator? It's not exactly a full game right now, so I'm not sure if you guys would actually want to do that, but I just thought I'd suggest it if you were interested!

Also would you consider playing any Nintendo games, specifically Zelda games?

Your calling for people to tackle projects that they may have previously thought undo-able due to difficulty, scope, or time requirements have inspired me to answer that call. Hey Ashley, I thought you might like to know this, since you mentioned it on The Patch. Okami has a touch-screen squeal called Okamiden, on the DS. Hey Ashley!

Sorry to put this in your personal comments but I didn't know where else to write it. I'd like to put forward a suggestion for what was my personal Game of the Year, Child of Light. I loved everything about this game from the superb visual style to the innovative battle mechanics to the absolutely beautiful soundtrack. I connected with this game on an emotional level unlike any other game I played this year. It rekindled that childhood-like imagination within me that made me want to explore and interact with this amazing world that I'd been put into in pure "Alice in Wonderland"esque style. Sure, some of the rhyming did feel like a bit of a stretch and the battles were too simple on lower difficulties; but I can look past those flaws because of the sheer amount of charm the game has and the joy that it brings me.

So whilst I know that you won't agree with this because you probably didn't play it or enjoy it as much as I did, but a game this good needs at least a mention in discussions for GOTY even if it doesn't get nominated. Although you'll probably never actually read this, at least I can say I tried. Love The Know, The Patch and pretty much everything you all produce and I hope you have a nice day :)

I was listening to the patch and heard that you didn't know much about the Dragon Age history, I was actually the same way before I started the second game. The Dragon Age Keep has a video that plays that will show you the actions of the previous games, as well as allow you to make decisions about that worlds history. Just watch the video, changing things when you want, and you'll pretty much learn all you need to know; with few exceptions of course when it comes to the lore. Either way, hope you enjoy the game, it is a lot of fun; despite the glitches here and there.

Heard you mentioning the Litany of Fear from Dune on the CAH stream: incidentally, Jeph Jacques (the awesome dude who draws and ) actually has the Litany as a tattoo. Dude has crammed so many Dune jokes into his comics.

Listening to The Patch, and I heard you talk about the button mashing.. .If I hadn't see this for myself, I would have logged it under the 'yeah right' mentality. However one of my friends is a button masher on almost any game.. On Spider-Man 2, he somehow started to webswing, shit a web ball and did a web zip past the web ball and had it pass him as he landed... How he did that, I have never found out... and he was like, 'How'd I do that.' Your story about not being able to replicate moves reminded me of that moment.

Thanks for linking to all of the full videos, makes my life so much easier. You and Meg are awesome! smiley12.gif

Any plans to talk about the massive Kotaku controversy and how it relates to gaming journalism?

Thought I'd mention that the link to The Know at the top of the page doesn't show up on the Store or RTX sites the way it does on RT and AH. Not sure if this is intentional, I just thought I'd tell you.

Just to say on the last patch I got yo back over the whole jif gif thing, if there's one constant with internet comments it's that there's always people trying to prove others wrong and just being wrong

I don't mean to be a dick, but I think the Patch #64 has an incorrect annotation on the home page of the website, it says, "Gus makes his return on The Patch #63." I may have misunderstood it, and if so sorry for the inconvenience.

Why aren't you guys at the know covering the story about Watch_Dogs for the PC being limited by Ubisoft?
I'd really like to see you write a story about it!

Anyways I've been loving the hard work on the E3 coverage! Being the News Director for a college news station I can imagine how tough that must be. Keep up the great work!
