Hey guys, Kirby kid here!
Being who I am, Kirby is a series that I most definitely enjoy, going to such lengths as naming myself after the main character (I feel that’s some form of… Backwards Narcissism?) But anyways, for the longest time I had wanted to do a Kirby character, to which eventually led me into getting in depth with King Dedede and his army. My Kirby fanboysism didn’t stop there though, oh no, afterwards I wanted to do something more… Something involving Kirby just a little further. That’s when I decided to do this Metaknight blog.
And wouldn’t ya know it, somebody already did that!
But that didn’t stop me. I bring you here today to introduce you to the man who made that blog; would you care to introduce yourself?
Hey, I'm SuperBrawlhero, SBH for short... I know it's a totally random-ass name. I love Death Battle (obviously), video games, anime, a cluster of characters, math, science & physics (yeah), paradoxal stuff, derping around, laughing... sorry I got carried away. But mostly, I really enjoy talking with my very awesome friends here in Screwattack and LK64 in DA, even though my free time can be very limited sometimes.
That’s right; we’re doing a Metaknight Collab. Since I thought Super’s blog was filled with so much information, I would feel kinda like poop to just reuse that and label it as my own. Not that I’d copy him, but the man deserves better than that! So with his information meshing with mine, I’m sure we’ll make something that you guys will enjoy. Now let’s get started.
Metaknight is the masked swordsman in the Kirby series infamously known for his role as the mysterious anti-hero within the Kirby series. His first appearance was in Kirby’s adventure, where he’d occasionally help Kirby and then try to screw him over by sending his goons after him. You know, anti-hero stuff. Though it becomes apparent later on in that game, and the entire series, that his goal is to mentor Kirby so that he’s ultimately prepared for the final battle. He did have his “want to rule the world” phase in Super Star/Ultra, but he’s mainly been a rival/mentor figure for Kirby, especially if we consider the anime where he’s a full on mentor.
In the Kirby Right Back At Ya anime, there is a race of intergalactic heroes known as Star Warriors, made to rise against the evil Nightmare wizard from taking over the universe. Since the Star Warriors weren’t too keen on having their home ruled by evil forces, naturally a war broke out between good and evil. Of course, this happened at the absolute beginning of the galaxy’s birth, dating back more than 50,000 years before the main events of the anime. Metaknight was one of the first Star Warriors, and was IN that war all those years ago (Yeah he’s a lot older than he looks). At the end of the war, the Star Warriors had lost, most of them were killed, but amidst the carnage one warrior stood alone, and that badass was Metaknight. After surviving a war that had lasted millennia, he fled hoping that he may not be the last Star Warrior. He would eventually meet Kirby, and teach him how to be a Star warrior, so that he may one day defeat Nightmare, and save the universe.
Yeah his backgrounds a lot deeper than you thought, huh?
Of course Metaknight didn’t get where he is now with just his fists and his wits. Metaknight wields the Galaxia sword, a sentient and indestructible golden blade forged by Pholtron, the mighty ruler of the fire people. The blade can only be wielded by who it deems is worthy of using its power, and that happens to be Metaknight… And Kirby, on occasion. Kirby is the only other character in the series to be able to wield Galaxia, mostly due to the fact that Kirby is of pure heart, being a child. Metaknight is truly worthy of the blade most likely due to his true valiancy. Not even Garlude, a fellow Star Warrior, and one of the best within the Star Warrior’s was able to wield it’s power, and sacrificed her life to give Metaknight the blade.
Oh yeah, whoever try’s to wield the blade and isn’t deemed worthy by the blade itself, gets a good taste of magical lightning up in their grill.
Oh, and you know what? Galaxia can fight on its own, and when it does, it fires many meteors on the enemy. I’m not kidding…
By harnessing energy within his blade, Metaknight is capable of firing energy blasts (ooh lasers) from his sword, these range into multiple variants such as:
-Fire balls: There are two versions of his fire projectiles, the first one was used in Super star and Super star ultra while chasing Kirby and wheelie, they are small but can be summoned with a great number. The second ones are crescents of fire clearly more damaging used in "Squeak squad", Meta-Knight can even fire three of them at the same time. He doesn't need to charge to perform these attacks.
-Electrical charge: Metaknight hits the ground, resulting in a ground-traveling projectile in the form of an electrical charge. There's a second version of this attack in "Squeak Squad", where he stabs the ground, creating even a bigger electrical charge around him. It's not really a projectile, but it is an elemental attack.
-Sword beam: As explained before, a concentrated blast able to easily create immense crevasses in the ground, cut through a mountain and completely overwhelm the enemy's most durable defenses and slice them right in two.
His sword is capable of firing mini swords as well, and these swords home in on enemies.
His sword also allows him to duplicate himself, granting him with two to five clones at his disposal, capable of firing a single sword beam before vanishing.
The Galaxia sword can also be used by Metaknight to improve his abilities in battle.
This ability allows Metaknight to increase his speed.
This ability allows Metaknight to heal himself entirely from all damage caused in battle.
And finally the almighty Mach tornado.
The first variton of this attack is a standard Mach Tornado attack where he spins fast enough to create a cyclone and becomes temporarily invincible. In the Smash series this attack cancels out projectiles.
The second version of this attack Metaknight fires a huge tornado from his sword that travels across the screen at varying speeds.
The third version of this attack is his most powerful, where he creates a giant fire tornado that splits up into 2 giant fire tornadoes that WRECKS bosses and does more damage than Kirby’s crash ability, which destroyed a city sized UFO with ease. We’ll get more in-depth on Metaknight’s tornado ability later.
This cape allows Metaknight to manipulate space in order to teleport. There really wasn’t a name for this piece of weaponry until smash.Metaknight’s cape holds a pocket dimension that he can go into and out of during battle, and uses it in his final smash attack, Galaxia darkness (A move we’ll get into later), to trap foes. He can also turn his cape into wings (but we’ll ALSO get into that later).
Metaknight’s final smash in the Smash Bros. games. This allows Metaknight to ensnare foes within his cape, taking them into the void that he uses to teleport, making them incapable of moving. He plunges a wide space into darkness and unleashes a series of deadly strikes.
Interestingly Ben and Chad have been pretty lenient on what they give their characters in DEATH BATTLE, leaving it up in the air to whether or not Metaknight will get this. It would make for a great battleground, if anything. The Halberd is Metaknight’s battle airship. In the anime the entire purpose of creating this was to combat the forces of Nightmare, but in Super Star/ Ultra he uses it to try and take over all of Dreamland.
The Halberd is capable of atmospheric and space flight. To resist to atmospheric entry, the Halberd is maybe made of fibers of reinforced carbon or an unspecified fictional metal. In the anime, this battleship traveled over 900 light years in a short period of time.
Metaknight stated that they needed to travel over 900 lightyears, and judging how long it took them in the episode, we can use this time to calculate the exact speed they were able to travel. So with some “simple” calculations we can put the Halberds speed at up to 11.2375 ly/s.
So this adds up to over 106, 314, 958, 685, 626, 740 m/s.
For those incapable of pronouncing that, this feat is over one hundred six quadrillion, three hundred fourteen trillion, nine hundred fifty eight billion, six hundred eighty billion, six hundred twenty six thousand, seven hundred forty meters PER second. Of course this serves no combative purpose, but still a pretty interesting fact nonetheless. This ship is crazy fast.
Shoot large canon-balls from its upper barrel. The lower barrel can fire a small but very powerful beam of highly concentrated energy, being able to knock down Dyna Blade (A big-ass bird that can cut hills only by flying next to them) in a single shot. In the anime, the beam fired is in a different color (Blue in the video-games, yellow in the anime), and it can destroy a city-sized mother-ship (Destroya) in one shot. I don't know if it has the same power in both sources, but the size of the beam is the same.
The reactor is an engine room full of Wheelies in the background that generates power. If its main part (The crystal in the middle of the structure) destroyed, the Halberd will start losing altitude since the reactor is the ship's main power plant.
It is guarded by a set of auto-defenses that includes:
-A cannon that shots a large damaging fire balls, can be destroyed separately.
-A series of burners under the ground that shoots fire beams that can be destroyed but will continue to regenerate.
-An extendable arm with a high tech laser gun. Thanks to one of the crew members, we know that it is the only weapon that can damage the crystal. So the only way to destroy the reactor in a direct fight is to make it shoot itself via the laser gun. Also, interesting fact: Meta-Knight's double Mach tornado attack can one-shot the entire structure, even the crystal!
Oh boy. This is where Metaknight absolutely shines at. On the ground Metaknight has been shown to fight at speeds faster than the eye can see in the mini-game Samurai Kirby. He’s actually quite difficult to beat.
In Metaknightmare Ultra, Metaknight straight up flies out of Popstar’s atmosphere and flies from one planet to the next. Metaknight does this casually throughout the game, and by the end of the game flies back from one side of the solar system back to Popstar in SECONDS. If we take the games summation below into account-
Metaknight is MASSIVELY faster than light, capable of crossing interstellar distances with ease, traveling a galaxy wide space in the span of 3 seconds if we take the ending of Metaknightmare Ultra into account. Either way you look at it, Metaknight is massively faster than light, and as such this should travel to his reaction speed as well, since he isn’t charging into any celestial bodies while flying at such speeds.
In case you didn't know, the speed of light exactly is 299,792,458 meters per second.
Since Earth and Popstar are in the same universe and both reside in the Milky Way, Metaknight had possibly crossed 100,000 light years in the span of 3 seconds.
Metaknight can tank atmospheric re-entry and the vacuum of space. During atmospheric re-entry, the heat of the object is around 5000C°. So yes, Meta-Knight can withstand a temperature of over 5000C°. In the anime Metaknight kept a large stone statue of Dedede from crushing Kirby and the gang by simply keeping it up but using nothing but his sword. This contributes not only to his strength (something we’ll get into later) but his durability as well. This should put his durability at over hundreds upon thousands of tons. This should aslo show just how much his sword can take.
Also, the mask Meta-Knight is wearing doesn’t work as a way to disguise his face only, but also for an additional protection. To my knowledge, Meta-Knight is the only Kirby character by far to wear an armor (kind of), excluding Galacta Knight... and Dark Meta-Knight.
When Meta-Knight experienced atmospheric re-entry many times, his mask too was unaffected by the high temperature. It didn't melt. And if you take the real-life metals into consideration, that's IMPOSSIBLE!!! Iron melts at 1538C°, the Carbon at 3825C°, even the Titanium that is the most durable real-life metal melts at 1670C°. Yes, the Titanium is more durable than the Carbon, but his melting point is weaker. There's no real-life metal capable of resisting to 5000C°.
You may ask, then how can real-life rockets and satellites resist to atmospheric re-entry? That's because they are made from durable metals like the Titanium from the inside, at the outside, they are protected by fibers of reinforced Carbon, to resist to the high temperature. If the rocket / satellite weren’t made of reinforced Carbon, it cannot withstand 5000C° and will be reduced to dust. Another example is the meteorites, once they pass the atmosphere; their size is GREATLY decreased by the re-entry (Luckily).
Okay, now, back to Meta-Knight's mask. I don't know if it's made of fibers of reinforced Carbon. It's maybe made of a weird fictional metal from Kirby's planet (Pop star). Or it's just some weird logic.
Overall, the mask is not invincible, it still can be broken. Kirby broke it many times actually, but since the mask can withstand atmospheric re-entry, then it definitely gives additional defense.
Also, it makes Meta-Knight look badass. I guess no one will ever take him seriously if he didn't have the mask, because that's how he looks unmasked:
Metaknight Kirby's father comfirmed.
There’s also one more thing to consider. Every boss Kirby comes across either explodes or gets knocked out, but whenever Metaknight battles him, he merely retreats, and has shown to come back after losing his fight as if nothing had happened (Super Star/Ultra) Metaknight will more than likely continue to battle even if his mask is missing. Also, Kirby is the only one who has broken Metaknight's mask, even if he loses all his vitality in game, his mask simply... pops off and he's gone, implying he teleported.
Strength/Destructive Capability Feats
As mentioned before, supported the weight of a giant King Dedede statue that had to have weighed thousands upon thousands of tons.
His tornado powers are very powerful based of their scaling to Crash Kirby, so looking at these tornadoes; let’s see how powerful they are from a real life standard.
A tornado is a violently rotating column of air. They are visible in a form of condensation fuel, with violent winds spinning around with a speed reaching around 450km/h and even more, putting a high pressure around them. They can come in different sizes, so not all the tornadoes have the same force, but even the weakest tornadoes can easily smash through walls and, literally, make a well-built structure explode.
There is six types of tornado when we want to calculate their destructive force:
- E-F0 : The weakest type, however it can still easily break large trees in two and destroy small buildings.
- E-F1 : Can cause more damage to the environment than the E/F0.
- E-F2 : This one is completely able of destroying mobile buildings.
- E-F3 : We're not joking anymore here, this tornado can reduce larger buildings to scraps, literally.
- E-F4 : It can toss heavy vehicles and large trees in the air, turning them into flying missiles, I don't need to talk about buildings anymore.
- E-F5 : That one just erase everything on its path, total destruction.
For some comparison the largest and most destructive tornado in recorded history was an EF-5, and was 2.6 miles in length, and was an absolutely unstoppable force, tearing down literally everything in its path.
Metaknight’s tornadoes are made of fire, and believe it or not but these things are possible in real life. Fire whirls (the technical name for a fire tornado) can reach temperatures of over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Natures fuck you to everything
Considering the type of foes Metaknight normally goes up against, his tornadoes should have the power of an E-F5 tornado no problem. The added fact that they’re also fire whirls is just icing on the cake.
Big thanks to coolnekochan for translating, AND allowing me to use these scans in my blog. Go check out his other stuff on DeviantArt and Tumblr!
Metaknight destroys his own halberd simply by flying through it.
Feats and Experience
- Single handedly, defeated the strongest warrior of the galaxy, Galacta Knight, who was sealed away because his power was so mighty, and whooped his ass just to become a stronger warrior
- Fought against and trained Kirby many times
- Defeated space manipulators like Magolor
- In the anime, he was the last survivor of the star warriors after the war(though eventually he discovered that few star warriors survived too)
- Built an entire battleship
- Has lived for over 50,000 years in a constant war
- Can wield a sword without hands
- Got banned from Smash Bros. Brawl for being too good
Metaknight doesn’t seem to have any notable weaknesses. If anything were to count as a weakness it would have be his code of honor, refusing to combat a fighter unless they have a weapon of their own. He can be rash as seen in Super Star/Ultra, but is mainly the more focused one within the Kirby series.
Meta-Knight is one of the deadliest characters in the Kirby franchise. He is a faster-than-light-flying-mysterious-masked-fast-sword-slashing-Halberd-owning-knight... What the hell did I just write?
What do you think? Was this armor plated puffball as OP as you expected? The Kirbyverse is known for their powerhouses, and Metaknight is no exception. How does he stack up?
- Insanely and unbelievably fast
- Can increase his already insanely fast speed because of his Meta Quick ability
- Has the ability to heal all damage received thanks to his heal ability
- Can clone himself into 5 duplicates
- Mach Tornado has power comparable to Crash Kirby
- If granted the Halberd has a lot of destructive capability on his side
- Has lived for over 50,000 years in constant combat
- Defeated the greatest warrior of the galaxy, which should stand as a testament to his fighting skill
- Teleportation allows him to maneuver anywhere he wants
- Based off of building the Halberd alone, is pretty damn intelligent in technology, and in general
- Is OP in Brawl
As if you didn’t see this coming. Zero is the badass Maverick hunter from the Megaman series. He’s known for his badassness and mystery just as much as Metaknight, and stands as the badass sword wielding version of his copy cat duo (Hopefully that sounds familiar) and mentors X throughout the X series. Zero and Metaknight have a lot of comparisons to each other, and it’s a fight that I and many other g1’s on the site would love to see.
Plus, it was already a one minute melee, and that did well. Why not transfer that popularity into DEATH BATTLE?
One of my most wanted battles. Zero defeated the star-level being Lumine and have a good futuristic arsenal, so he's sure to give a good fight to good ol' Meta!
Shadow the Hedgehog
Another good battle I thought about too. Both badass warriors walk on the mysterious line between good & evil. And since Super Shadow can fly too, it'll be great to see them clash in a fast-paced brawl in outer space.
Characters have been shown to come back in DEATH BATTLE before, so if anyone were to come back, it would have to be Shadow. Thematically this makes for a great match, so it’d be cool to see these anti-heroes go all out against each other at intense speeds.
Don’t really know where this match came from. I understand the reason for having the match, they’re both knights, but I see this being a huge stomp in Metaknight’s favor.
Ben once thought about this match, but it's honestly a hard stomp in Meta's favor, who can end the fight in less than 1 second... that wasn't figurativly speaking.
Admittedly I don’t know much about Sephiroth other than he’s fought Cloud Strife and is an incredibly powerful and feared swordsman. I hear random scales of power from this guy but it’d be cool to see Metaknight fight against someone who goes against everything Metaknight stands for, chivalry.
Nice idea. DB needs moar FF characters, and Sephiroth will be a good one to enter the arena. Given how hot of a shot he is, his fight against Meta Knight will be like a Magolor boss battle.
This is a reccomendation thanks to g1 Grand Blazer, a character from the Inuyasha anime series. He also maintains a rival/mentor role of the main character, while at the same time wield a legendary blade.
I actually orignally wanted Metaknight to fight Yoda back when i had first become a g1 on the site, and after reading Grand Blazers suggestion on the character again it made me think about how cool the match up was back then. Both Metaknight and Yoda stand small but are not to be estimated thanks to their great abilities in combat. Definitely would be an interesting matchup to see.
Big thanks to SuperBrawlhero for helping me with a large chunk of information in this blog. Give the man support if you haven’t already!.
Finally got this blog out just in time, and while I could give you guys a sneak peak at the next combatant, I’ll indulge you with a little riddle instead.
Next time on DEATH ANALYSIS..
"I howl at the sun, shining light on a world once ruled by evil. I will brush aside any opponent that crosses my path, even at the expense of my own safety."
Till next time, Kirby Kid (and SuperBrawlhero) signing off.
