I LOVE Transformers. I have loved it since I was a kid, and I still collect action figures to this day. And I will admit that I actually like the 1st Transformers live action movie.
But this is different.
Since then, I have gone to film school and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. I've learned to look at movies more constructively & artistically, in ways I never thought of before. And I can tell you that this is not a movie. Movies are supposed to be art. What Michael Bay creates barely even resembles art. At least not the good kind.
When asked about the quality of his movies, Michael Bay answered: "Let them hate. They're still going to see the movie." That is the mindset that went into the making of this film. It wasn't about trying to make something good. It was about making more money. You could argue that the same can be true about any summer blockbuster, but they at least make an effort to be good. There is some sort of passion that goes into the making of them. There is no passion in this movie whatsoever. Even the explosive action sequences lack any real passion or excitement.
The IDW Transformers comics have shown that there is plenty of room in the world of the Transformers for creative storytelling, filled with compelling, 3-dimensional characters and exciting new twists. But as long as Michael Bay is in charge, that will never happen.
If you plan on going to see this shit storm, I urge you to save your money for a movie that's actually worth watching. Do I have faith that people will finally wake up and stop paying to watch this crap? Absolutely not. But we have the right to demand better content from Hollywood, something Michael Bay will never understand.
